Juvederm Q & A

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a family of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. Each Juvéderm product is specifically formulated to replace volume loss in different areas of your face, including your lips, cheeks, or chin. The doctors often use Juvéderm injections to fill in deep wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced naturally in your body that delivers nutrients to your skin, helping it to retain moisture and softness.

What should I expect during Juvéderm treatment?

A Juvéderm session typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area and the number of injections needed. The doctor begins your session by cleansing and closely examining your face to identify the precise locations where Juvéderm injections can provide the maximum benefits.

Using a small, sterile syringe, the doctor injects the Juvéderm gel into your skin, occasionally stopping to assess the progress and gently massage the gel into place. The hyaluronic acid gel not only replaces lost volume, but it also stimulates the production of fresh new collagen in your skin.

Juvéderm injections aren’t painful. The gel includes a small amount of lidocaine, an analgesic that numbs any pain. If your skin is very sensitive or you’re uncomfortable with needles, you can apply a cold compress before your injections or request a topical numbing cream.

The effects of your treatment should be immediately noticeable. Depending on the specific location of your injections and the products used, the effects can last up to two years.

How should I care for my skin after my Juvéderm treatment?

Juvéderm injections don’t require any recovery time — you can get right back to your regular activities. Your skin may appear pink and slightly puffy after your treatment, but these symptoms should subside quickly.

You should avoid strenuous exercise, makeup, sun exposure, and alcohol for 24 hours after your injections. When you wash and dry your face, be very gentle as vigorous rubbing could displace the injected gel.
